SUBMISSIONS

New Square will publish fiction, poetry, commentary/essay, obituary, and film, book, and music reviews, and the journal will be released bi-annually.  Submitters need not worry about fitting themselves into niches or conforming their writing to preordained or manufactured subcategories; we are looking for pathos and will publish talent in all its forms.

The Fall 2019 issue, Issue 3, will be released, both in print and online, on December 15th. We will consider submissions until November 1 for the Fall issue, but we accept submissions year-round.

The Spring issue goes to print on May 1, and that reading period closes on April 1.

Please see the submission guidelines below.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

All submissions should be sent by email to newsquaresubmissions@gmail.com.

The intended section (poetry, fiction, nonfiction/commentary, obituary, film, music, or book review) should be noted in the subject line of the email. Submissions will then be forwarded to the appropriate section editor. All submissions should include a full name and contact info on the first page of the document.  Poets may submit up to three poems, and prose submissions should not exceed 5,000 words (they can of course, be far shorter than that). Submissions can be part of a larger work—a novel excerpt for example—but they must be able to be read and understood in isolation. Submissions for the review sections (film, music, book) do not need to be about contemporary works; we’re not limiting the discussion in any way.

Music and Film Review Call to Submissions:

New Square wants your music and film reviews! These do not specifically need to be "reviews", as we accept all ranges of submissions as long as the content is clear and honest. We are looking for pathos, and will publish talent in all its forms.
